Garage Break In
JP had just left his house when he remembered that he did not shut the garage door, but since he was only going to be gone for a few minutes while running a quick errand he thought nothing would happen. After all it was broad daylight, and on his street in Lake Bluff, neighbors were out in their yards and people were walking their dogs. However when JP returned less in less than 10 minutes he immediately noticed some things were moved around in his garage, and then he noticed the empty spot on the wall where his $2,500 Cannondale mountain bike used to hang. In the middle of the day in less than 10 minutes someone had noticed the bike in an open garage and took advantage of the easy opportunity and walked away with a very expensive bike.
Brick Through The Window
This winter, multiple homes in the Whispering Oaks neighborhood of Lake Forest reported a home intrusion. Intruders had hurled bricks through the front windows in an effort to gain access to the home. These delinquents were never apprehended. A frightening reminder of the audacity of the that criminals that roam our communities at night.
Cars Break Ins On the Rise
During the rash of car burglaries that plagued our community last year, one street in Lake Bluff had ten reports of cars being broken into. Neighbors had a check book stolen, another neighbor had birthday presents taken from her car sitting in the driveway and numerous cars were ransacked and damaged.
Detached Garage Door Left Unlocked Leads to Lost Golf Clubs
James and Cari have a detached garage with a heavily used side door that all of their kids use and have a propensity to forget to lock. On almost every night, James gets up after the kids get home, walks outside to check that the door was locked. One Friday night last spring, the door was left open and on this night James did not check the door. When James got up the next morning to play golf he noticed the unlocked door and his missing golf clubs. Someone walked into his garage in the middle of the night and walked off with his brand new very expensive set of clubs.
